Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

SB 443 -- WATER PATROL OFFICERS

SPONSOR: Staples (Hosmer)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee
on Public Safety, Law Enforcement and Veteran Affairs by a vote
of 19 to 0.

This bill removes the bonding requirement for State Water Patrol
officers. It also makes technical changes to Section 306.165,
RSMo.

The bill contains an emergency clause.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the 1974 Reorganization Act
requires the Water Patrol to be bonded through the Office of
Administration. The current language is not practical because
Water Patrol Officers work in several counties, not just one.
Removing the existing bonding language would clear up confusion
about the bonding requirements.

Testifying for the bill were Senator Staples; and Missouri State
Water Patrol.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
